I have been learning wordpress as a side project.
Budget isn’t an issue for creating the blog I’m trying to create. However I’m unable to understand how this is created ( I’m using astra theme and know how to use elementor, I can use other themes as well)
This is a news website call thehindu.com
My questions are –
1) how do I create the side panels in wordpress. Is there a plugin for this. If you look at the right side of image there is a timeline of recent post( marked number 2 in image) . How do I create this in WordPress. And on the left side it shows the premium post ( marked number 1)
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this one.

You create a template in Elementor. In this case it’s the “single” template because the article is being viewed in the middle of the page. There are 2 sidebars. To create those, simply create a 3 column row in Elementor.

And use widgets on the website, to show particular article in particular section
1 and 2 are called sidebars. You can do this with most themes even the basic twenty-twenty four theme that comes with your WordPress.org install.
The sidebar posts can then be shown by date or randomly. You can also control the sidebar content by category.
It all starts with the theme. All WordPress sites will need a theme, so research that first. I use GeneratePress. Take a look at some of their library templates.

What u wanna use to do it? CSS? Elementor? Gutenberg? Divi? Premade template with editor? GeneratePress?
There too many ways to do that….
