How do I stop WordPress adding a space when I highlight some text? I then have to remove the extra space EVERY TIME! I don’t want it! I just want to highlight the text I’ve highlighted!

Stop selecting that space then. Your computer has no way of knowing you want the selection to stop after a particular word. So it obeys your mouse/keyboard command.
It looks like you are highlighting the space after the T in your example. Stop the highlight at the T.
Don’t double click on the text. Left click and highlight. Start highlighting at the H in Hold and end at the T in thought.
Use the tool correctly. If you don’t want the space, don’t double-click. Just curious- which end of a hammer do you hold?
Press the option key while selecting and change your life. It stops the cursor accurately where your selection is. Works systemwide, not just in WordPress. I don’t know the equivalent on PC but I’m guessing it’s the alt key.
