How Do You Add a Custom Database Error Page in WordPress to Enhance User Experience During Downtime?

Hey everyone!

I'm working on a WordPress site and want to create a custom database error page instead of the generic “Error establishing a database connection” message. I’d like to add something more user-friendly, maybe a “We’ll be back soon!” message or contact info.

Has anyone set up a custom error page before? Is it best to edit the wp-config.php or use a plugin? Would love any tips or suggestions to make the process easier!

Thanks 🙂

  1. I think your time would be better spent figuring out why you’re experiencing database “downtime” so often that you’re even considering trying to make outages look pretty. Perhaps it’s time to move hosts?
