How do you migrate a website to a new domain WITHOUT moving the database?

[ad_1]

Let’s say I have a WordPress site that is www.website1.com and I want to move it to www.website2.com which is hosted with the same host and I can use the same database without moving it. How would I go about moving the site to the new domain? All the plugins I can find move the database too and it seems like it should be pretty simple to move the files over and run a search and replace in the database for the URL. Am I missing anything I would need to do?

  1. Are you just trying to use a new URL for your existing site? If so, you need these instructions:

  2. OP’s question, as a metaphor:

“I would like to move to a new house without bringing along all of my stuff. Can I move into a new house yet still use all of my stuff in the new house while that stuff remains at my old house? How can I sleep in my bed in my new house if that bed is still in my old house? Why does any process I try to use to move into the new house demand that I bring all my stuff along from the old house in order to continue using that stuff? I want to use all my stuff at the new house without actually bringing it to the new house!! Help me, PLS!!”
