How does WordPress handle different languages?

[ad_1]

I am in Canada, official languages: English and French.

I run a news site. It’s mostly in English. I installed WP in English.

I remember in phpBB, you can just install different language packs, activate them and voila. I get to choose English, while if I hire someone in Croatia, he/she can chose Croatian. Same for other languages.

I have never had to do anything non-English. Hence I never looked for this.

How does WP handle languages? I mean the behind the scenes not the blog posts. Like I see all the menus and admin area in English. Is there a way for the person in Croatia to see it in Croatian and I see in English? On phpBB, I would select English on my account and the person from Croatia would select Croatian.

  1. It doesn’t, really. The solutions I’ve encountered are a plugin that translates on the fly, and had a client that had two different content trees for two different languages.

  2. Google “Wordpress multilingual plugin”. I’ve used WPML in the past, it did a good job. Don’t use auto translators, they’ll make your content look unprofessional.

  3. Wpml anda polylang are the most common plugins to solve this. If you don’t need WooCommerce, I recommend polylang
