How future-proof are the FSE themes?

[ad_1]

Hi guys, I’m looking for the most future-proof stack on my WordPress site. FSE is still a bit early, but let’s face it, it might be more future-proof than the combo generatepress / generateblocks, or Kadence, or Spectra, or any of the likes that are still using the classic theme option.

Also, let’s face it, the classic Gutenberg blocks would be enough to build more than 80% of websites out there. I know it’s controversial to say so, but we don’t actually need any external collection of blocks (Kadence, Generate, Spectra etc.) to build \*most websites\*.

Soooo… With that in mind, what would be the most future-proof FSE theme according to you?

I’m looking at Frost, but I’m not totally satisfied. To me, future-proof would be 1) supported by a quality company (think GeneratePress for instance) and 2) very simple and lightweight, and 3) supporting FSE.

Thoughts?

Thank you!

  1. I’d say the most future proof stack is definitely to use native built wordpress themes and blocks, and just stay away from plugins for construction.

I find the core block and fse too restrictive for my needs, but of course if it works for you go ahead

  2. If I’m going to use an FSE theme I use 2024.

I definitely like the idea of using Frost or Neve, but I know for sure that 2024 will always be supported, whereas with a custom built theme, the developer could easily up and walk away from it at any point in time.

If it’s a company that’s more established, then I would have more trust in the longevity of support for the theme.
