How much choice do you give a client when you are building a template-based website?

[ad_1]

I am wondering about the best way to start the building process. At the price points I am listing, completely custom-made websites are out of the question. Figma designs add too much labor. Therefore, I find myself using templates and then customizing the templates for the clients needs.

Do you let your client choose the template?

OR

Do you send your client 3 template choices and they choose which one they like?

OR

Do you just choose a template based on what you think they will like and not mention it is a template at all?

I am curious to hear what people do when they are building a template-based website.

  1. I use templates to create 3 directional “moodboards” where all templates have something unique / different to them.

Bring in other assets to show how the template would might change if they went with a over b or b over c

personally, i like this approach cause Clients like to have options and input.

warning: don’t include anything you wouldn’t want to work with. Clients also will pick the worst of 3 options often for some reason.

  2. If the client cannot afford a part of your service, don’t provide it.
If the budget really is down to a premade theme let them provide it – they should sign up and buy it themselves as this will give them full control and it’s a business expense.
Also, make sure they are aware (contract) that any further customisation is extra cost.
