How plugins work in a multisite network

[ad_1]

We’re considering switching over to a multisite for administration of our microsites at work. I’m trying to wrap my head around how purchased plugins and themes would work.

Lets use WPML as an example. If it’s purchased for the network, does it work on every site on that network? Would I need to purchase a licence to work on the individual sites, or would it work across all the sites in the network with one purchase?

As I understand from what I’ve read, I would just need the one time purchase but I’d like to confirm that.

  1. Licenses vary by plugin. Most plugin vendors will treat a multisite on a single domain as a one-site license. Others will not, but it’s not very easy to enforce.

Multisites using multiple domains or subdomains may require a multi-site license, since you”d need to register a new license key for each domain on the multisite. But it really depends on the vendor and how they do enforcement of licenses.
