How to add custom css to a plugin’s style.css file

I want to add some custom CSS code to a plugin’s style.css file, I tried adding the CSS code directly in my theme’s ‘functions.php’ file, but it doesn’t seem to work. Can anyone help me with the correct way to achieve this?
