just made a blog and added two pages to it e.g poetry, then prose.

but when i write and post something, it just ends up on the homepage AND the 2 pages i created called poetry and then prose . How do I specifically assign a post to a specific page? I did click static for homepage, but all my blogposts are now showing up in the homepage instead of its specific categories.

In WordPress settings, have you set the homepage to display all posts? If you assign an existing, static page to appear as the homepage, does that solve the issue?
What is the “poetry / prose page”? If it’s set to display all posts as well, perhaps that accounts for the repetition.
You don’t assign posts to pages. Pages and posts are completely different things. Pages are meant for things like About, Contact, etc. Posts are your blog posts. If you want to categorize them so you can have a “Poetry” category and “Prose” category, then you create those categories and then assign the posts to those categories. Then you can view all posts that fall under “Poetry” on the Poetry category archive page etc. If your home page is set to “display all posts” then it just display all posts from your blog in all categories.
