How to add sidebar to site that isn’t so simple?

[ad_1]

I joined an organization a few months ago that uses WordPress for their website with a Generatepress child theme. I have mostly been using Elementor Pro to do basic upgrades to the site. I have experience on making basic website changes through Wix and and Squarespace, but this is my first time using WordPress. I have no experience in coding. It seems I can not find a straight answer on how to add a sidebar that isn’t very simple or tiny without some sort of coding. I’ve tried using the Custom Sidebars plugin and it wasn’t displaying on the site for some reason. I’ve tried to add one through WordPress and I can get one displayed in the site but it’s very very basic. It doesn’t need to be anything crazy but I would like the title to be bigger and expand the sidebar to be a bit bigger. Is there a simple process in which I can achieve this? Any advice for a beginner? Thanks!

  1. Watch some YouTube videos it’s pretty straightforward but if you are looking for custom styles that would require some front end knowledge

  2. It comes down to the theme for what controls you have. Most free themes don’t give you anything. Worst case, you can always override things with css.

  3. Kadence theme (free version) comes with a sidebar option and a whole lot of other customisation options. Was a breath of fresh air after some other themes I had tried and wrestled with.
