How to batch-add image file extension without losing DB refs?

[ad_1]

I have a few dozen .png image files which do not have a “.png” extension (*any* extension) and need to have them added.

I know I can batch-add “.png” on the server – and I know how to do this in bulk, so I don’t waste time doing it one-by-one.

But I presume this will mean the Media Library items lose track of the image files. The file as initially named will be gone.

How can I batch-rename these files and ensure Media Library does not lose them?

I’d like this to be done easily, in as much bulk-batch as the rename itself, because the idea of picking through the DB and changing individual values doesn’t fill me with joy.
