Someone has requested me to build a website for their business which they want to be hosted on WordPress. However, they don’t want to use page builders like Elementor out of concern this would affect page speeds. I’ve built WordPress sites using Elementor and I’ve built non-WordPress sites using just HTML/CSS/JS.
However, I’ve never gone about building a site which is WordPress based but coded from scratch. They will want to integrate some e-commerce functionality using WooCommerce, will that be an issue? I have little to no PHP experience which I assume will be a problem. If I’m in over my head, I’d rather advise the client now, rather than making promises that I won’t be able to deliver on later.
Alternatively, could I look at using a different CMS?
Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank you!

The default 2024 theme along with the block editor works fairly well for almost all use cases. Supplement the build with a CSS editor like Yellow Pencil (cheap one off buy) or Microthemer (Free lite version available) and you should be good to go.
Ps: The page builder performance issue affects only badly built websites and/or inadequate servers. But I’m assuming someone told them this and it’s become a blanket blame thing. So I doubt there would be any point arguing it.
