How to delete a wordpress “sub-directory” installation

[ad_1]

I didn’t even know this was possible, but I found out that the previous developer of a site I was working on installed wordpress within another installation of wordpress and called it /dev. this “dev” route is essentially just a folder nested within public\_html. I am trying to entirely delete this installation, but am not sure how to go about it. Do I simply go into Sitegrounds cpanel and right-click -> delete the entire /dev folder? Will that cause any issues on my main site?

I will have to go in after and setup redirects as the previous developer allowed [mysite.com/dev]) to be indexed by google, but I am not concerned about that. Can somebody please confirm if this is the proper way to delete the sub-installation and to stop people from navigating to mysite.com/dev?

  1. Redirect /dev to the main site if it’s indexed. Make a backup of everything and check what database it’s using. Do not forget to make backups.
