How to get media library to use file names when importing?

[ad_1]

Hi,

I’m working on starting a blog, and I’m currently working on a local site, using WordPress 5.1.15.

I’m currently trying to upload pictures for about 15 posts, around 75 pictures altogether. I’ve named the pictures with the title of the blog post they will go in (+ a serial number). I was expecting the name in the media library to be that same as the file name. It’s not.

When I upload the pictures, most of them take as name the previous file name, which is something like P98900.5.final.jpg (this is part of my processing, I start with a photograph of whatever, and then process it to make it look nice, so there are several stages… but that shouldn’t matter!)

Yes, I know I can go into the media library and rename each file manually, but WHAT A TIME WASTER!!!!! The blog, when it will be live, will be quite a picture heavy one, so it’s really not a sustainable solution.

So…is there a way I can get the media library to take the media name from the file name? I’ve looked in the settings, can’t see anything, but maybe I missed something. Is this a WordPress version problem? Is this a local site problem, maybe?

Failing that, is there a free plugin I can use? (It has to be free, because I have no money.)

Failing THAT, is there anything else I can do????

Thank you to anybody who might be able to help, and if this isn’t the best sub for my question, please let me know where I should ask?

  1. Strange.. WP usually uses the filename… did you select the right files/folders? I assume you made a backup of your files, renamed them, but selected the original ones for upload.
