My hunch is that people interested in the news you publish will get them from official news sources and, if they come across your site, click away quickly.
Have you done a keyword search and determined the position you rank?
For example. I have a personal website with my name as a .com but nobody searches my name for which I rank top so, the visits I get, are based on blog articles I write. Find lesser known facts about the games that other sites don’t publish and give the site a visual overhaul to compete with the news sites.
I would start with improving the visuals like a big awesome banner, below some CTA, then some info and then one column of top stories to move the visitor on to the actual news articles.
