How to increase Core Web Vitals for mobile?

[ad_1]

I have the following scores:

||Performance|Accessibility|Good practices|SEO|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|Desktop|92|95|100|100|
|Mobile|77|95|100|96|

Admittedly those are pretty good but is there no way to bring mobile performance to 90+?

The main “culprit” are render-blocking resources, CSS files mostly. A big culprit among those is Ultimate Social Media Icons’ huge CSS file at 780ms but I can’t do without it.

I already use Imagify with WebP rewriting and use proper image formats (ie jpegs when possible). I don’t use any optimization plugin as I fear this will break my site and they’re all quite costly.

  1. I find there’s too much obsession with core web vitals. After a certain point there’s really no benefit in gaining an extra few points, other than to show off to others.

    Does mobile load quickly for you? If yes, then just start focussing on the website itself (or if you’re a developer, move on to the next job). If no, then review what’s causing the slow down itself (which you have).

    And when you say “Ultimate social media icons”, I presume you mean [this plugin] So much of that stuff can be done with basic HTML, CSS and some JS (probably not even any JS depending on what you’re trying to do). What are you actually using from that plugin that means you can’t do without it?
