My friend had a free version of wordpress, and then purchased a domain on it. He did not upgrade to business plan or anything. He’s still on the same basic plan. He simply purchased a domain through the WordPress platform (I’m still not entirely sure how this is different from purchasing a regular domain).
I made him a website in regular HTML, JS and CSS. I’m just trying to figure out….how do I upload these HTML, JS and CSS files onto that domain that he purchased? So that when users enter that site address in their browser, they just see my website that was built with basic HTML?
I have uploaded stuff on traditional domains before. Where you can access the server files through CPanel and upload your files to the public\_html folder.
But how does it work here? I am able to access that domain through the WordPress dashboard (where it tells you to claim the domain, pick a domain name for it, etc.). But what comes next? I am unable to install any file manager plugin because that’s not allowed on the basic plan.
Can that domain be accessed only through the wordpress dashboard or is there a direct way to access it and gain file system access?
PS: I know that on the free version of wordpress (where your website URL is in the format name.wordpress.com ), you are not allowed to use custom HTML files. You have to use the wordpress editor to make the site. But do you have the option of custom HTML filese AFTER purchasing a domain?
