How to use GA to track a variety of WordPress posts that are all associated with one client?

[ad_1]

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, or if the title is misleading to the answer I am hoping to get…

I work for a media company that publishes curated articles/news content and blog-style posts for our audience that is locally focused. We partner with companies in those local communities and publish content about their business. We create performance reports for our clients to show them how each individual post that we published for them performed.

The problem is that we are manually populating the stats for each individual post and we have to find them by URL or page title. It’s time-consuming to complete so we want to figure out a way to optimize this process on a client-to-client basis.

To better understand, let’s say we have Client A and we published 5 posts for them. I want to create a report that shows the # of pageviews their 5 individual posts earned. Is there a way that we can create a tag, utm code, or something unique for Client A that can be applied to all 5 of the posts we published so that when I can go into GA, I can apply that unique tag/code as a filter and be able to see all 5 posts and their respected stats?

Ideally, I want to have these unique tags/codes to be accessed or applied within WordPress. That way every time our editors/writers are composing a post for Client A, they can check a box or something in the backend of WordPress and when the post is published, GA can identify that post and associate it with Client A.

Hope that makes sense.

  1. The best method would be to add a custom field to your Posts where you’d enter a client identifier (like an abbreviation).

Then you include GA “event” tag code in your post template which you can generate reports from in GA.
