I have implemented CookieYes on a future site I am working on and they have this option where a small icon like circle logo appears on your website constantly to allow users to revisit their settings.
My question is, do people keep that thing on all the time ? Or do they disable it ?
because honestly it is a it distracting to have this thing pop up and follow you around, especially on mobile.
I mean really, like do users care so much about their cookie settings ?
I switch it off for all my clients sites for that exact reason.
The idea is it gives visitors the opportunity to change their mind on consent. As long as you have the option available elsewhere it should be fine to disable it.
In Europe, or at least the Netherlands, it’s in essence illegal not to have this button.
You also need to:
– be able to deny all cookies as easily as accept all cookies. No extra step to deny is allowed
– make all buttons look the same, it’s not allowed to draw more attention to the accept all button
– by default, uncheck all boxes. Not allowed to pre-check them because that would not equal consent
and there’s probably more 🙂
