I can’t figure out Local WP workflow

[ad_1]

I’ve been doing my best to try and troubleshoot the whole Local – WP but i can’t figure it out and i find documentation around this horrific.

For context, i’m doing an accessibility audit on a WP site that’s running with WP engine.

1. How do you know whether or not your site is updated with the latest code? How do you do it? I save the file, reload the site, and it’s still the same – none of the changes implement show up.

2. What files need to be pushed to staging for them to be updated properly? I pushed to staging, and it said there was a critical error when i only updated the changed files.

3. Running the site locally, none of the assets (photos, videos) play. How do you troubleshoot this?

Honestly, i would just love a step by step on how to do this. I’ve pulled prod file down, edited it, pushed to staging. I keep hearing how easy this is but I’m not seeing it.

  1. 1. Your changes should show up right away when a file is changed. If they don’t then it likely means you have some form of caching enabled, likely through another plugin.

    2. You only need to push files with changes. If it’s telling you there is a critical error there is likely a PHP error in one of the files you updated.

    3. You need to remap the asset paths in your local database. You will need to search the database table for the domain and replace it with your local domain. There are plugins out there that will help you with this.
