I challenge Automattic to put their money where their mouth is

If you’re going to call out WP Engine for not providing the full WordPress experience because they disable revisions by default, then I challenge you to this:

Allow users on your $8/mo tier to install plugins and not gate the feature to upsell people to the $25/mo plan. Provide all your users the full WordPress experience.

Until this happens, I can’t take anything Matt says seriously.

  1. I went looking at the [Wordpress.com](http://Wordpress.com) hosting info after Matt posted the other thread. I couldn’t remember what the restrictions were but I knew it was something. Yeah, they literally have a paid tier where you can’t install plugins and themes. Pretty wild that he’s going to call out WP Engine for disabling a core feature when they do it too.

  2. By biggest Problem with them is they bought AFC and when you are dealing with people who take money from Private Equity, I promise you in never ends well. People complain about Awesome Motive and their umbrella of buying the best plugins.
Private equity folks have no souls, just wait and see what they will do down the line.
The beautiful thing about WordPress is that in levels the playing field and yes you have to pay a bit to buy premium plugins, but you are dealing with folks who could care less about WordPress, they will and THEY DO jack up prices many folds.
At least awesome motive believes in the spirit and mission of WordPress, the vultures today circling will suck it dry, make as much money as possible, destroy everything in their path and move like locust to greener pastures.
I will make a post explaining what is starting to happen and for everyone we should be afraid very afraid.

Honestly Private Equity the way it is structured in the US, should be illegal. Again I will make a post explaining what is going to end up happening and it is starting to happen.
We are now seeing it in WordPress across plugins where pretty much the functionality gets disabled once the license expires.
Also, look at WP Engine several years ago and look at it now.

  3. They own [https://pressable.com/](https://pressable.com/) and it’s a direct competitor to WP Engine.

It just does not have the same branding power.

Personality, I wanted to try it but I don’t like the idea of using jetpack at all.
