I have a client who is looking for 24-hour emergency support service for their WP Website

I’m technically their WP dev, but sometimes I’m not available and this makes them nervous. They are hosted at WPEngine and I’ve told them to always call them if they can’t reach me. We’ve had 2 plugins recently cause some harm and it took me troubleshooting for a few hours to figure out what the issue was. This has made them sort of freak out. I suggested looking into a more Enterprise solution with an agency (would love to find a larger outfit to service these folks). It’s an ecommerce (woo) platform that they are aggressively trying to grow.

Anyone have experience with this type of situation? I think they have outgrown me.
Thanks much.

  1. Why are plugins breaking their website when you aren’t available to work on it? Tell them not to install any plugins or do any updates without you and there should be no need for 24/7 support, no? Things shouldn’t just be catastrophically breaking themselves in the middle of the night.

  2. Plugins shouldn’t break like that. *Generally* the only time that happens is if the plugin is badly out of date or abandoned. (Yes there are always exceptions to this). I manage about 80 sites and it’s been several years since I had a site break.

Offer the client a maintenance plan, where you perform the updates, backups and general maintenance, on a weekly basis.
