I need recommendations on how to use WordPress in 2023

I’ve been building sites for a long time with WordPress and WPBakery mostly. During the last 12 years I went to the conclusion that WordPress is okay while not offering much new features other than trying to please an amateur audience. Let’s be honest that Gutenburg editor sucks. There are many page builders out there or themes with their own tech and some are good, some are bad but most of them are terribly coded/optimized. Here’s a list of the things I hate when buying a theme.

1. Heavy page builder that waste your time (ex. Elementor)
2. Poor performance grade on Pingdom or similar tools
3. Theme options not in Appearance > Customize
4. Clogged wp-admin interface with terrible UI decisions
5. Too many third party required plugins
6. Botched mobile/tablet versions (need many tickets and end up with custom CSS that’ll eventually break)
7. Broken theme options
8. All the crap I’m forgetting but you probably relate to as well

I’d like to know if there’s a theme company or a theme that provides a clean, well coded (A performance grade) and stable solution that won’t end up in installing 10+ plugins, clogging your admin interface and slowing down your end product.

I wish WP would take their popularity more seriously and build an official page builder like WPBakery/Elementor so that all theme makers out there would comply to and unify their work. I’ve searched for other CMS and while I found great options for static websites builders there’s nothing close to what WP can offer in the end. Even though all the negative things we already know about. All I see are businesses trying to make the new thing that’ll replace WP but clearly nothing out there atm can really replace WordPress.

Any recommendations are welcome.

  1. If you don’t like Gutenberg, check Bricks. I didn’t like page builders and avoided them, but Bricks seems to be different. It is performance-oriented.

Don’t get me started on Elementor or WPBakery.
