I have been trying to create something very simple via WordPress. I just need what is essentially a blog website, but for some reason I am struggling a *lot*. I recently learned there is not only a [Wordpress.com]) but also a .org, which has only added to my confusion. I haven’t done much in the way of website building for many years, but when I was doing it actively, it was with Wix. Wix was essentially a drag and drop editor. I am not a web designer. I don’t know code. Wix was everything I wanted and needed. The trouble is that Wix is quite a bit more expensive. But still, I miss the simplicity of Wix.
Do I need to take time and give WordPress a chance? I just feel like I am really struggling and I don’t know why.

Only you can answer that question for yourself.
Full of tutorials on youtube and other website. I was like you 10 years ago, 0 knowledge & struggling but I wanted to be better, as WP in that time was most requested too…even til now.
You can start use builder, plenty of good theme builders to choose. Then start to learn basic HTML & CSS as some theme may can’t give what you wanted to tweak layout or colours. W3schools is pretty useful source for this.
Then again as other said, only you can tell. Just need dedication to achieve anything.
Edit: if you want to start, I can give you a premium theme & plugins (the current version). But I can only provide you as files and cannot give you my license. All you need is cheap hosting for trial and error.
If the main reason you want to use WordPress over Wix is price then I would reconsider.
WordPress is much more capable and flexible than Wix. But you need to invest a lot of time to master it.
