I wanted to make a custom testimonial slider but it didn’t work and now I’ve wasted 3 hours help?

Hey, so I’m on a free account, so I tried to make a slider, didn’t work, realized I had to mess with the functions.php document to make it work, but I couldn’t. So I tried to work around it and couldn’t. It always worked fine when I previewed it, but when I save and refresh it puts my code in plain text, please help.
