Recently built a WooCommerce shop selling alcohol for a client. They were happy with it, but later asked for an add-on step for registered users to upload an ID card (age verification) which required admin approval before being allowed to purchase.
I am slightly concerned that there are some privacy and data collection laws here, which need deep consideration. Not to mention holding an ID card in a database requires beefing up security for the site as a whole.
Would really like to hear some opinions on this, and what steps I should consider before looking at this.

Yeah you are super right to see red flags here, uploading and storing government ID’s on your WordPress database is NOT OK DO NOT DO THIS. I’d use a third party service for this if I were you, many will have WooCommerce integrations. [Example])
Show this client the section of your country’s law that covers data protection and the consequences of failure in that regard. Then tell them you will not take on that liability.
