Can you guys help me figure out how much to charge my clients for maintaining their websites?
Inclusions:
WordPress Care Plan
- Safe WordPress Core Updates (Monthly)
- Monthly Plugin and Theme Updates (if needed)
- Database Optimization and Spam Cleanup (twice a year)
I offer similar services for my clients. I use ManageWP which lets me run updates and DB optimisation across all my sites in a couple of minutes, which I run several times a week. I charge around $50AUD ($33USD) per month for maintenance, but for most of my clients I bundle it with my hosting.
It is a very difficult market to charge for just these services. I offer web hosting and use MainWP to offer these maintenance items for free to my hosting clients. It allows me to stand out from other vendors.
I also have a developer license for some popular plugins so I also offer Updraft Backup, WP-Rocket and Gravity Forms to my clients.
I charge about $30 per month depending on the clients needs (heavy sites or e-commerce are more) so I am probably 30% above plain hosting but my clients get me on the phone directly and a very personal level of service.
This has given me a nice solid base of recurring billing each month that helps me even out my income from web development work which can be sporadic.
