So I want to start a website where I review products. I got a word account because it’s supposedly the easiest to use. So far it’s most complex thing ive ever used and i built my first website at the age of 13 using HTML and geocities.
I’ve paid for the web domain through wordpress. The themes they offer are crap and this drag and drop UI is so awful. The boxes don’t go where you want them. The theme is stuck on my page and I can’t get rid of it. I’m looking up YouTube how to’s and they keep saying to download word press- I tried but there’s no download file in the zip.
It’s true I’ve forgotten most of what I used to know from some 20 years ago so it’s like I’m learning everything all over. But still this is so complex. How do I put the program on my MacBook? It’s offering one option if I’m hosting it myself and another if I’m not. I paid WordPress to host… right? Can someone please help me to figure out what I’m doing wrong?

Download “Local” from localwp.com. It’s a local WordPress set up that will let you tinker, for free.
Then when you’re ready to put the site online, get yourself some good WordPress hosting. By that I mean NOT WordPress.com, who paywall basic features like custom themes and plugins and only offer garbage free themes.
