Images visible on Google before blog post has been published

Hello!

*I’m not a native English speaker so please excuse me if I’m using some incorrect terms, I use WP and Google in my own language and I’m not sure about all the correct terms in English.*

My WordPress site, hosted on Loopia, has been up and running for more than 10 years. On it, I review products and the site is doing very well, I regularly get the chance to review products not yet out on the market. I often write about products with an embargo and I have never had this issue before.

What happened this time is that I had written the whole blog post, complete with images (with ALT texts), and saved it as a Draft. I plan to publish the post tomorrow. But this morning I was alerted to the fact that some of the images from my Draft were already visible on Google images.

I did my own Google search on the name of this new product and yes, it was true. When choosing Google Images, they were there. But, they were added on to a blog post I made back in 2012. When I clicked on ”Visit” after choosing my images in Google Images, I entered my own blogpost, packed with these new images from 2023.

However, when I entered editing mode for that same blog post, the post only had the old images that actually belong to that post. That I uploaded in 2012. The new images were not there. In panic, I deleted the blog post (it was so old and not relevant now anyway so no harm done). But some images are still visible on Google Images.

I always give all my images very specific names, the original images in my old blog post did **not** have the same file name as the new images.

**So here are my questions:**

\- Is it correct that as soon as I upload images in WordPress, Google can find them?

\- If so, is there any way to prevent this? I want to be able to write and edit blogposts in advance, but when there is an embargo on a product, I can not let images be visible before the set date and time.

\- How could it happen that an old blog post suddenly were showing new images, from an unpublished blog post?

\- And even more weird, how can the visitor see the new images in the old post, but when in editing mode, I still se the old images – the ones that should be there?

I have screenshots on everything described in this post but can upload them since there’s still an embargo on the product I’m writing about. Would be very grateful for help in what happened here, so that I can prevent it from happening again!
