Currently, there’s no a hook or WP CLI command that can deal with the files exported via the plugin. It’s a great idea to include something like that in a future release.
I’d like to import the configuration through code without using the plugin.
I’m not sure if I understand this correctly. In order to use the hook or the WP CLI that will be added, you’ll need to have the plugin active during the import.

Yes, of course, the plugin will need to be active. What I want to do is import the ZIP file from a PHP script, not from the WordPress backend.
When you develop it, maybe share it here as well.
