Can you share a copy of your CSV – or at least a few of the products?
I import CSVs quite often and never had this issue – and you’re right, there isn’t a ‘Use As Variation’ column in the CSV docs.
Will gladyl do this. I’ve just created an online spreadsheet.
Some column names are in german. However you will easily find the columns regarding attributes and the end. I tried several values, but nothing works. The checkbox is always disabled after the import.
I can’t even find this setting in the database. I have no idea where the status of the checkbox is stored.
Just let me know, if you prefer the orignal CSVs. I could upload the files, if this makes things easier for you.
Thank you very much in advance. I really appreciate your help.

Sorry, I’ve just found out that there was a minor spelling error. Now, the checkbox is activated after the import. However, the variations are not matched to the variation IDs. In other words, no variation is selected in the drowdown list:
It’s german, but you will get the idea. So, the variations are there, but they won’t work in the frontend. I have to select the variations in the dropdown fields first.

Looking at the Variations sheet I can see:
‘Attribute 1 name’ – should be the same as in the parent – Maße and not pa_masse
You need a value for ‘Attribut 1 Wert(e)’ in the variation too so that the import knows with variation this is – so row 1 would be 160 x 60 cm then row 2 would be 36 x 36 cm etc
Are you mapping the ‘Artikelnummer’ column to the built in ‘SKU’ field in the import settings?
Also, you don’t need to have separate files for the variations import. I find it a lot easier to have everything in one sheet – that way you can see the variations directly under their parent. It makes editing a lot easier!
You made my day! With your help, I finally sorted it out. Here is a sample CSV for others to download. I changed the column headers to the english versions for an easier reading. Quite astonishing that this actually quite simple task took me hours to get it to work. On the other hand, there is a lot of inconsistent information on how to setup the CSV files correctly.
Thanks again, buddy! 🙂
