Interview Advice

[ad_1]

Hi everyone!

So I have an upcoming third interview this week. In preparation, the employer sent me a file of the starter theme and asked me to answer a list of questions to choose from regarding my process for reviewing new code, and what I would change (ie speed improvement or making it easy to use).

I have an idea of what I want to answer but if you were an employer asking a candidate to review your starter theme, what type of question, suggestion or observation would impress you the most?

  1. When reviewing theme files, I’d pay attention to best-practices (like following naming conventions, using hooks the right way, provide comments to explain the code, etc).

Check if you can make any performance optimizations in the code, but also in the assets.

    And of course: security.

If you also have to provide feedback on the front-end, make sure that the site is reponsive and user friendly (alt code for images, easy to use navigation, etc)

  2. how to improve the query of posts, if you can minimize the css or html structure of theme, seo practices, images optimization, caching, mostly optimization parts unless he wanna change the whole stack for front end

  3. There’s a ton of coding guidelines on the .org site. Using PHPCS and the WordPress sniffs will highlight a lot of these, as well as others, so is always something I’d use for any code review.

3rd interview, though. Congrats – that seems pretty far through the process. Which company is it, out of curiosity?
