Is creating WordPress themes worth it?

[ad_1]

I’ve always liked the idea of creating landing pages and similar things with HTML and CSS, and I wanted to also have a blog but I never had any idea how to create a blogging system because my backend skills are quite bad. Recently I discovered that you can integrate a website with WordPress’s backend. Right now I’m going through a course to get me started with this and so far I’ve been liking it, I would like to freelance, and also make some websites for myself. However, I’ve noticed that there are tons of free themes with a cool design, and the paid themes are even better.

My opinion is that if your design skills are great and you make unique websites with cool effects and so on you could get to sell some of your websites. I could be wrong though.

So if I were to get a client, would I be better installing a free or paid theme; or would it be better to just code my own theme, integrate the WordPress’s backend and deliver that? Obviously it would depend on what the user wants, but I also enjoy the process of coding and all of that, however, I would like to deliver what’s best and as fast as possible.

  1. I don’t see anything wrong with building out your own theme, but there are themes out there that are just built better. Building your own theme can give you a unique insight into the inner workings of WordPress which could be useful in the long run.

When it comes to cost, time, and effectiveness, I think the big names win every time. Elementor, Divi, etc… provide great support, a functioning product out-of-the-box, and community/third-party addons to enhance your/the clients’ experience.

Considering the last line of your post, “I would like to deliver what’s best and as fast as possible”, then a larger theme/web builder may prove best (imo).

  2. WordPress themes are in demand and people have built empires with theme business. Search for premium WordPress themes.
