Is it advisable to the export function to transition from wordpress.com to wordpress.org?

So I made a website on [wordpress.com](http://wordpress.com), and it looks pretty good. However, I didn’t realize I wouldn’t be able to install plugins without upgrading to the creator plan, which is 300 effing dollars, and they don’t even offer monthly payments on it. So after looking into other options, I opted to switch to [wordpress.org](http://wordpress.org) with kinsta hosting.

The only thing is, you can’t migrate your website with a migration plugin without.. upgrading.. to the 300 dollar plan.. So the other option is to export the site and import it, However I’ve been warned it won’t be as smooth of a transition and I will likely need some development experience to make it look as nice as it does on wordpress.com. How true is this? Should I just cough up the 300 bucks? Thanks.
