Is it better to hire a person to code something rather than use a plug?

People say to limit the amount of plugs that you use due to server resources

This is something i wanted to implement on our site [https://wordpress.org/plugins/contextual-related-posts/]) if i hire a freelancer to basically code something that does something similar but with no gui would that always be better than the plug, or can the custom code be worse than the plug its trying to copy?

  1. There’s no right answer. A plugin could be coded badly, or your freelancer might be a bad coder. You won’t know until you compare them.

That freelancer would be building a plugin that copies a functionality from another plugin.

“six of one, half a dozen of the other”
