Is it OK to Self-Host WordPress on a VPS Instead of Using Managed WP Hosting?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently paying for managed WordPress hosting through Ionos, but I also have a VPS that I use for other containers. I'm wondering if it makes sense to cut out the managed WordPress hosting and just host it myself on my VPS. I would consider myself experienced in managing services in general.

Has anyone here done this? Would it really be much different from using managed WordPress hosting? I’m curious about what kind of challenges or benefits I might encounter by switching to a self-hosted setup.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Yes this is totally fine to do (it’s what I do for hundreds of clients), assuming your VPS has enough resources to support your sites and traffic.
