Is it possible to get a social image for a wordpress homepage, without a plugin?

I have a very simple wordpress site, and I want it to have an image to show when I share the page on social media. I don’t want to add a feature image to the homepage, as I think it will look funny, so I’m wondering if there is anyway of doing this without installing an additional plugin? I only have the “explorer” level of wordpress, and would rather not upgrade.
