Hi,
I’m new to WordPress and was wondering if there’s a free way and easy way for my friend and me to work on the same website together locally or if there are any free hosting services.
We don’t need the hosting to be top-notch because we plan to pay for a good one later. Since this is our first WordPress project, we’d like to keep it free while we’re still learning and building.

You could use something like ngrok to tunnel from one of your machines to the other.
broccolihost.com is at $1 per month (first term). Should serve you good.
As for local, you can’t work on it together unless the can expose it to the internet. He will not be able to connect.
