After buying into the marketing and one time fee aspect of Divi, I started buying plugins to make it ‘just as good as Elementor’ to no avail due to divi fundamentally lacking features (reverse column order, fine adjustment of gutter widths and column widths etc.). As well as multiple bugs and bad WooCommerce styling options.
I then, due to my workplace duties, could finally use Elementor in a higher capacity than before, but even then it needed a whole myriad of CrocoBlock jet elements to work as intended. Better than Divi by a mile but still lacked a lot of native styling options and comes with an annual fee.
So finally I am looking to do some client work on the side but don’t want to use the above builders. I turned to Oxygen as it seemed like a very bare bones DIY builder with lots of customisation. However, I see that there are a lot of advised add-ons for Oxygen too. Does anyone in this sub use Oxygen and how many paid plugins/ which plugins do you use for client work? just so I can avoid wasting my money like I did on Divi plugins.
Also, more broadly, is there a builder out there that does it all without having to add copious amounts of plugins to the mix, or would I have to custom code functions myself to do this?

“is there a builder out there that does it all without having to add copious amounts of plugins to the mix” – Nope. Because what you define as “necessary” is “fluff” to someone else. Not to mention trends come and go, and new blocks/features are constantly being added and the old neglected. Many companies have tried to build a “universal” builder and all that happens is now you have n+1 builders. If you really want something tailored specifically to you, you should just get something custom built. Oxygen is probably the most flexible of them, but beyond that you’re probably just doing custom blocks/plugins/theme.
/u/codename_john is correct, you aren’t going to find a builder that does everything you want without addons.
What I would need to know to make adequate suggestions for you is what features do you need. I’m sure whatever you want can be achieved with Oxygen, but I’m really going to need some direction on what features you’re seeking to help you out.
If addons won’t accomplish everything you need, you can 100% implement the features as custom code, which is very easy to do with Oxygen. So as john said, Oxygen is the most flexible in that respect.
If you’re learning Oxygen already, you may as well commit to it because there is a lifetime license purchase option available with an install on infinite number of sites for no extra cost, and you’ve already committed. Oxygen will likely suit your needs best.
