I’ve been putting together a wordpress site for a small organization and it is mostly complete, but the last thing I’m wanting and have not been able to figure out is how email notifications work. I’m using the free version of WP Mail SMTP and it works just fine for account creation emails and whatnot, but I’d also like a notification email to be sent to every user account when a new post is made (preferably with some granularity, like the email only goes out if the post is categorized as an ANNOUNCEMENT or something). It would be nice if there was also a “sign up for email notifications” thing that a person could enter their email address in without actually registering, but if not, doing it for registered users is good enough.
I don’t see a way to do this in WP itself, so I assume there must be a plugin that does it because this seems like a feature that would be commonly used. All my Googling is telling me is that I would have to use a third party marketing company or something for this, but that doesn’t seem right to me.
