Is there a way to require a commenter to fill in a name and/or email address but only store the info and not display it publicly?

I know in the settings under Discussion, there is a check box to require name and email address, and when I try to search, I see various ways to add php functions which remove certain fields or make them mandatory or not, but if there is a way to collect the info and just not display it, I can’t seem to find it. Any tips appreciated! TIA!
