I am attempting to do what I originally thought was a simple task on my WordPress site but I am finding that it may not be as easy as I thought, or even possible.
The website that I am working with needs the ability to upload Calibration Certificates, in PDF format, that customers can then search for and download whenever necessary. The old conventional way of doing this would be to just house the PDF internally and email them to customers whenever requested.
My original thought was to upload these PDF documents via FTP to a specific directory and then have a search form on a dedicated page of our site. These documents would be titled with the serial number of the equipment tested. The search form would only search files in this specific directory. Customers would search for the serial number of their equipment and, if a match was found in the directory, the customer would be presented with that file and a download option.
Is this possible within WordPress or am I completely missing a fundamental issue with this thought process? I did find a paid app “Shared Files” but I wanted to first explore a DIY option, if it is easy enough to do.
