Long story short! After testing plugin updates on staging I went ahead and updated on production … except here it threw 500 error with nothing in the logs. I used a backup to fix the site that time. I deleted and created staging copy again and ran the updates again. All good. Then again updated on production = 500 error.
Maybe worth noting the staging site is made in-house on my host.
As for the plugins, it did not matter which one I updated it threw the error. The plugins are off the shelf stuff like contact form 7, complianz… again no problems on staging.
Has anyone had this happen? I‘m a bit lost 😀

Check your server logs.
If the environments don’t match, then it’s possible yes.
