Is this type of site possible in WP?

I am looking to build a specific type of site in WP and wondering if its possible and if so what plugins might be needed.

I want to have a site where users submit info through a form and get a reference number. Basically, want them to be able to use that reference number to see the info they submitted as well as give a status if any additional info is needed or status on progress. Almost like an application to apply for something. I submit info, then check back to see if its approve/etc,

Is something like this possible? I have built static sites so not sure if something that requires something like a database is possible. Thank you.
