Hello, All.
Quick run-down on my level of expertise… The closest thing to “code” I’ve gotten into was simple HTML websites back in late 90’s/early 00’s. Since then, I have been mostly involved in CGI media creation such as 3d renders, animation, vr, etc. I also own and operate a local contracting/construction business and after many failed attempts at hiring someone to make me a simple website, I ended up doing it myself using WordPress with Elementor. Simple stuff for a website that is not complex at all… The most complex thing is probably the contact forms being handled by the Ninja Forms plugin.
I now find myself with an itch to try an idea out for an online community webapp serving a specific niche. My vision is simple; mainly a “forum” online community that needs to have the following requirements:
* Location detection to highlight “local” sub-forums and topics first to each individual user.
* e-commerce; ability to take payments (one-time or subscription)
* Custom “badges” for users that is either automatically granted by a trigger of an (above-mentioned) monetary transaction by user or manually by admin (preferably automated)
* Reviews; Ability to have an establishment review section where users may review a local establishment with a written review and a star rating (or perhaps multiple star ratings for sub-categories (e.g. cleanliness, value, etc.) For example – let’s say I want to show all “pizza restaurants” in a major city. Is there a way to scrape this info from Google Maps and show each of these listings as their own “post” in the forum where users may review it? (I know, you’re probably asking; well, why wouldn’t someone just review it in Google Maps??? Yes, but I think this ability will improve the overall community that would be here.
The above is just what I think my idea will need at minimum to get started. My question is the following: Is this doable in WordPress?
Or should I look elsewhere, like say [bubble.io]) and other “no-code” platforms, to build this webapp?
