First time posting in Reddit & first time using WordPress so go easy on me.
The content of the site I’m to build needs to be restricted to registered users only, I’ve seen mention online of WordPress having a built in user registration – I’m hoping to gain insight on how this works and if it will be enough for what we need. The idea I have now is the landing page needs to be a login or sign up page, once registered or logged in it should redirect the user to the full site. Potentially with some areas being resitricted to view only by certain users with permissions, on those pages will be previews of downloadable PDF’s, PNG, and Doc files (currently we use Docstar by Epicor for this). We have a GoDaddy domain open and ready to use for the site. Though I believe I will need to set up a server as the former employee that was working on this originally was running a beta version of the site from a server on a personal account of theirs. In the meantime I have created a small google site only viewable by company specific gmail addresses that I manually entered in.
A friend suggested Divi rather than the free version of WordPress, I’m open to any advice or suggestions for other tools, plugins, or resources! I’ve saved about 6 WordPress tutorial videos on youtube to watch, however the front end isn’t really the part I’ll struggle with so I’m unsure how helpful these will be.
Thank you all of you in advance for your wisdom on this!
Background Context:
Due to some staffing changes, I’m now in charge of building an internal use only site for my company. Our former employee had built out a site as part of their employment but is now holding it hostage, so we disconnected the server from our domain but have no way to access the site files or database as their computer was wiped (they built the site using Joomla! which has no end user support option). We are currently working to determine whether or not the original site is technically company property as it holds much of our intellectual property, but until that’s figured out – we’re rebuilding from scratch. We’re a small corporate HQ supporting a small team of franchise owners. The purpose of the site is to serve as a centralized hub of resources and potentially to host some PDFs and docs of different marketing posters and training guides – some of which only specific users will have access to so I’d need a way to set user permissions or at the least add a password to access certain pages.
This falls on me as I’m their systems coordinator (mainly managing our google workspace admin and CRM applications) and now the only techy person in the company. However I’m only 25 and have had limited experience in web dev. I attended a 6 month full stack web development course in 2020 (of which I still have all the class videos and resources) but I’m out of practice to say the least, so I figured it’s time to learn web building tools such as WordPress to do the heavy lifting for me.
