In the past I’ve made (minor) changes to the html/css of a blog I had and I always got by fine by some googling/trial & error. Thusfar with WordPress: not so much.
I have a pretty clear image of what I want my blog to look like:
\- Square post thumbnails (possibly with some rounded edges but that’s a detail)…
Well yeah, that’s 90% of it actually. But with most themes I come across that have that there’s almost always 3 on each row (which I succeed at making smaller but it still won’t change it to 4 or 5) or I don’t like the mobile interface.. there’s always minor details that could do with some changing, and then there’s so many files with so much code I just get lost.
So I started with CSS/HTML-courses on Code Academy but they’re learning me a lot I either already know or don’t see myself needing (I don’t need a contact form, thanks). I went through some ‘build your own WordPress from scratch’-tutorials but I fear I might end up with a theme that still looks nothing like what I want (a lot seem focussed on themes that have full blog texts on the front page). In a way building from scratch seems more appealing cause at least than I understand everything that’s in my files.. but it also seems like a lot of work for something that maybe shouldn’t even be this hard.
Also, part ADHD, part burnout, my attention span is terrible. So something like ‘read a few lines/do as they told/see some result immediately’ is preferable to pages of info that I’ll have forgotten by tomorrow.
Any pointers/suggestions what would be a good starting point to get a better understanding of WordPress without there being so much theory my head will explode?
