Learning WordPress

[ad_1]

Hi! I finally got a job offer and its for a web developer position that uses WordPress. I’ve played around with word press back in college (2019-2022) so I know the layout and how to navigate WordPress. My question is, is WordPress hard to learn? The job wouldnt require too much HTML,CSS and JS from what the hiring manager informed me. I am just feeling a little anxious that I might not be able to do it 😅. I do have full stack experience so I figured I should be able to learn it really quickly and I’ve been reading the WordPress book by O’Reilly. Also the hiring manager said they are more than happy to teach me WordPress and how they use it as well. Any advice or input is helpful! Thank you so much!

  1. If you’re worried, spend a day or 4 building a front page with everything needed. That will probably prepare you.

  2. Why wouldn’t the position of WEB DEVELOPER require much HTML, CSS and JS?? That’s a weird thing for the hiring manager to say when interviewing for a developer position. What exactly will you be expected to develop if you’re not coding anything?

Either way, developing with WordPress would typically involve at least knowing some PHP, HTML, CSS & JS. Unless they’re just building sites with page builders and millions of plugins. If that’s the case then you’re not going to be a developer, more just a designer / user of page builders.

I’d recommend YouTube. There’s loads of tutorials on theme/plugin development. Also the official developer portal on WordPress.org: [https://developer.wordpress.org/](https://developer.wordpress.org/)
