Lightweight website heavy content

[ad_1]

We are looking to build a website for our travel agency as our current providers of 10+ years are going bust.

The issue we are facing is as we sell flights/hotels/tours linked to our APIS (we are registered) we always thought wordpress was a terrible option. However we have seen some competitor websites and they have built lightweight websites using wordpress.

Now we are just exploring the best way to go about it. We want to know what page builder should we use (if any)? Which theme?

For context our website is around 500 pages long. We have at times 1000+ people on our website.

We have time so we don’t mind using something that involves more effort in order to make it look professional and functional well but it needs to be a theme/builder that is regularly updated due to our booking engine undergoing updates.

  1. There are plenty of lightweight starter themes for WordPress. I prefer GeneratePress (along with GenerateBlocks), but other names will come up if you browse around. If you want to go the page builder route, I have heard good things about Bricks.

WordPress’s performance “issues” are brought up so frequently due to reasons unrelated to WordPress itself. People opt for shitty web hosting, use a truckload of plugins, use a bloated theme from Envato, and generally have little discipline or knowledge on how to setup and manage a site.

WordPress is built on solid technology and has been around for a while. There is no reason why a properly configured WP site will perform poorly.

  2. You could get a developer to build you a theme that only does what you need and cuts out the bloat.

  3. This project needs a developer team. No way you can just click your way through such a migration. SEO damage will be done.

  4. Bricks builder is a great page builder that is fast. It’s also developer friendly so you should be able to integrate your APIs to make whatever you want.

  5. GeneratePress Pro, hands down. You can add custom blocks, if need be. Get a reputable dev who can handle APIs (connections, data, etc.) and who knows how to build custom blocks.
